No. Soul is infinite times denser than Ununtrium Eka-thalium, denser than the densest, lighter than the lightest, beyond annihilation, no element on earth and cosmos can cut through it, Gross fire can not burn it even if engulfed, Gross water cannot drown it, Gross air cannot destroy it,Gross Earth cannot bury it, Ether is primordial and immortal and eternal. Soul is Ether. Purity is the only question. I used the word Gross because the gross elements differentiated to the minor elements of Fire, Air, Water, Earth and Ether as we perceive on earth is infact the molecules when compared to the Gross elements of those elements which have differentiated from them into particles of the same on earth just the same way as we each individual soul has differentiated from the cosmic soul and came to earth with body encased to lead the life of human beings. What I mean to say is the Cosmic Ether in its gross form which purer than the purest ether is God. Similarly, in the cosmos there exist the undifferentiated forms of the other four elements in infinite shapes and formless forms. In the distant interstellar spaces, suddenly a fire of the order of the cosmic fire can suddely engulf one, similarly the winds as in solar winds, and similarly the waters of the water. There can be oceans of water suspended in the Ether, the same way as Earth does or other planets does. The Maharishis of olden times saw these through their inner eyes and called them the Ksheera Sagar, or the Vaikunta and the like. Yes Tolkien fantasy can be reality.
Mara or Maaara? Mara is already dead, Maara is killed Maaras are those who can kill. That who can kill is Shiva and that which shines in the centre is the thrid eye. That is the only substance which can annihilate a body and a soul. Soul can burn like fire and as fuel to fire and come out purified. The third eye can make a bhasma(fine ashes) out of anything and that cannot come back to life as a phoenix from its ashes, unless Shiva Wills it. The whole Asura Gana alongwith Bhoota Gana are within the ambit of that destructive force if needed, So Mara cannot be powerful as to annihilate the soul.
