I need to change: Men’s Health?

Ok. I’ll be straight up. I feel like I am… not who I want to be, I want to be better, look better, be smarter and a whole bunch of other things, probably like all males of my age. I am 14, got to tenth grade, and on top of that still study in an online school on the other side of the globe… in tenth grade.

Now what I don’t like about myself? I’m skinny, lazy, tend to fall for girls, and chase them around, resulting in my being embarrassed. I want to eat more, but don’t know what to eat to gain enough weight. I want to encourage myself to exercise every morning, but I always end up being too lazy, and don’t even know what I should do for exercise, I try to get a girlfriend, but end up short in the friend’s zone…

So really, I am a pitiful mess(in my opinion). What I would like from some of you knowledgeable people out there, is recommendations on what I should eat and how I should exercise. This means a lot to me.

I’m two years older than you, and this is how I changed:

Two years ago, I was everything I hated about myself. I was fat, lazy, and below average in class. I was self-conscious, to the extent I became insecure. I was always trying to hide my manboobs. Then something happened. I started to lose a few pounds. Then I started consciously watching what I ate, I bought some dumbbells and began to workout at home. I listened to dozens of self-help podcasts, and slowly, I got into shape. I lost 30 pounds, and I’m looking great. Even my results took a turn for the better, and this year I’ve consistently been in the top 5 in my class.

Until now I studied in an all-boys school, and I never really knew any girls, apart from those I knew from elementary school. And then at the end of last year some of us met up and one of the girls was interested in me. I’ve never had a girl tell me she’s attracted to me, so this was where my confidence really took off. When she told me I was ‘hot’, I knew all that work had paid off. Everything changed. (I turned her down though, wasn’t interested)

Now I’m finally ready to leave the all-boys school, and I know I’ll have a blast.

For me, being in an all-boys school was perfect for me, it offered me a cocoon away from girls. And I’m ready to break out of it now.

For you, start by getting some dumbbells or going to the gym. I would suggest dumbbells since you sound a lot like I was- insecure about myself. I had no workout bench so I improvised with some rectangular cushions. I just happened to have some. Search up different workouts for different body parts- the chest (inclined benchpress/flyes) and shoulders (seated military press) are the most important in my opinion. Workout 2-3 times a week for 1-1.5 hours at a time, with 3 sets of 8-10 reps. Get some music playing. Chocolate bars and bananas give a good energy boost before a workout, and proteins like eggs and tuna are good for muscle growth. Muscle ache after workouts is normal. I learned that from my tennis training. Speaking of tennis, play some sports.

You’re 14, don’t worry about getting a girlfriend just yet. focus on changing yourself. With change comes confidence.
