Cultural considerations in Latin America
Latin Americans are famous laid-back – to the point that people often say, you must Reset your watch to a different rhythm of life while landing in the region. However, do not be seduced into thinking that just because People are relaxed, they will not get offended by anything! As with travel anywhere, there are still some sensitive areas, you must be aware – and Latin America is no different!
Religion
While Latin America seems to ooze sexuality when she is portrayed in Western media, many parts of the region are deeply religious. As a result modest dress and behavior are highly recommended: there are many beaches where you can remove, so there is no need to do it elsewhere! To avoid feeling the need to undress, be sure to invest in some loose clothing, cotton clothing. Like most Latin Americans are Catholic, Sundays are a real religious significance. On this day, double your efforts to appear modest (and do not expect stores too numerous to open)! Moreover, while the churches are places to visit, remember that these are also places of worship.
Drugs
The "war on drugs" in Central America and South America is called a "war" for nothing, although the drugs are more readily available than at home, possession and other drug-related offenses are treated rather harshly. As such, engage in drugs in South America are not very recommended, especially that of the police are very frequent. Moreover, if chewing leaves Coca is a popular pastime in Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina, make sure you do not travel with them. Outside Latin America, most countries make no distinction between coca leaves and any other substance containing cocaine.
(Do not) shows Your space
Communication in South America is far from being a timid: the conversations are great, Stan Smith and have of hand gestures a lot more. A byproduct of all this means that your personal space is not as sacred as it might be back home! Decline compared to someone who speaks to you may be considered rude, so try and leave your inhibitions behind and get you involved!
Do not get snap-happy
It is a common reaction to grab a camera photo and start snapping away happily each time you see something interesting. Usually, this is not too much of a problem in Latin America, but May cause problems if you start photographing children, people in traditional costumes or officials. Your best bet is to ask first – Imagine how you feel if someone thought your jeans and t-shirts were strange and taking pictures from them!
Re-set your watch!
Although it differs in each country, Latin Americans tend to have a more relaxed to Timekeeping in the West. Maybe it's relaxed attitude to life or overtime little light the day that you get, but punctuality is not a major concern here! If you have arranged a meeting with someone to try to clarify if they mean an exact or approximate time, as it may prevent you from there to wait until everyone arrives!
