Can I learn to drive without mounting a teacher with me?
I want to learn to lead climb. I am very proficient in roping climbs to 5.10. I know how to belay, set up the anchor rope on the cliffs outside, and I have a basic knowledge of tools used by the Lead climbing. I have access to a climbing wall that is part of my fitness schools. The wall was placed quick links on it to escalate, but there is nobody here who knows how to lead climb. I wonder if we could (read not stupid) to be able for me and some friends to teach us how to lead climb. Does it matter what type of cable that we use, static or dynamic? Do we need any equipment other than what is necessary for roping? Is there information that I need to know before jumping on the wall (good quality websites, books ,…)?
dynamic rope only. Lead climbing is very different from anything else. Even on a road just totally locked its scary. You fall so much further. The reason why people panicked when the lead is just arent used to fall well. On the walls inside you never fall away and there was never more than a scrape. In the lead you have a high probability of suffering a real decline. You tend effect more grip on the stay more exercise and lose its momentum. I stick to 5.6 for a time and do a variety at this level until you are fell several times and gotten used to it. Then go to routes that are more difficult.
