Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon
The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is an annual commemoration of April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that killed 168 people. Conceived in April 2000 by two friends to celebrate life and understand its value in light the tragedy that has nipped life without warning, the inaugural event took place this year. Since then, more than 10,000 runners each year, making "Runner's World Magazine," classify this as one of the world "Must Run 12 marathons."
The "Run to Remember" as the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is known, Not only physical activity but also emotion. It is an activity that allows people to remember those they have lost not Only by bombings, but by other events both tragic and forget the sorrow and grief and look to the future.
The day begins with a service at the Survivor Tree, followed by 168 seconds of silence – one second for each victim of the attack, and then the highly anticipated race. Starting Robinson, located at the National Memorial Entrance is between 6 and NW NW 5th, the course has remained unchanged since the early race, except for avoidance of a hill in the last mile. The finish line is in a block between 6th and NW NW 5th on Broadway.
168 banners are created for the marathon representing each victim. Each participant could register on the stand in honor of one of the victims and carry the banner returned. Runners sometimes also honor others, they know that may not be related to the Memorial.
Editing 2009 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon will be held April 26. Menu includes major 26.2 mile marathon single loop, a loss of 13.1-mile half marathon, a relay race, 5 person 5, 10 and 12k legs, a non-competitive 5K Memorial Walk and a 1.2 mile marathon for children. The Health and Fitness Expo and Pasta Dinner Memorial of yesterday are the other attractions of the event.
