Exercise Spring
I have been looking at spring poles for my APBT I want to know if they are a way to exercise for the winter.?
I walk him 3- 4 miles everyday or I go for runs with him but he is still hyper and they look like fun but it looks like they are for training your dog to fight and I dont want that. So is it an ok toy to get my dog or will it bring out aggressive tendencies?
Wow. I had no idea what you were talking about originally, so I Googled it. Very interesting, but I see your point. I found some fairly comprehensive sites about it (see link below). In your place, I do not know if I would get/make one or not, what with the bad p.r. Pitties have. (I love them, please do not misunderstand.) A couple of good alternatives might be Frisbee and/or agility.

Edit insert:I went back to the google search and went to the pitbulllovers site. I really like what he says. He seems to think that spring poles are not a source of aggression stimulus. Still, this is something you have to decide for yourself.

Having said that, years ago I unknowingly constructed a “kinda-sorta” variation for our JRT/Bull Terrier mix and our Rottie to play with. I hung a rope from a very stout tree limb and threaded a couple of Kong toys onto the end. They would play Grrr (tug) with it for what seemed to be ever. Mine had no spring at the top but the limb definitely shook up and down and around, and the Kongs hung fairly low to the ground. Gotta say, our doggies did absolutely love it. Wore themselves OUT.
