Exercise Mats 2 Thick
New to Yoga. Should I get a 1/2″ thick mat?
I’m around 5’7″ and weigh around 200lbs…..
I’m planning on doing some exercises in which Yoga is incorporated into the routine.
I have hardwood floors.
Should I get a 1/2″ thick yoga mat? If so would I need to buy a special bag to put it in since it would be thicker than a regular mat or should I just hang it somewhere when I’m not using it?

I would get a padded mat, not the one they sell for yoga, but one from the sporting goods store for comfort, and also a few little pillows, and a yoga brick. Also, don’t sign a contract, and don’t let the teacher force you to do any position involving forward body work if you have a bad back. So, I vote for a thicker, more padded mat, not the flat, less resilient one, they sell as a yoga mat. Mine wraps up and has elastic to keep it easy to carry, but I could sew a carrier, if necessary. Good luck. Personally, I love the Pilate’s classes way more. It makes me feel like a million bucks.
