Exercise Mat Large
protein shakes! should i use them, advice please !! (also exercise tips)?
hey,
so i am 16 and started the gym about 2 weeks ago,
i am 6ft and a large build 15stone, although i want to keep big as i play prop in rugby i started the gym hoping to shift the fat and replace it with muscle 
i warm up with a 15 minute jog on the tread mill,
then do some abdominal workout’s on the mat for about 10 minutes.
then 30 minutes on a bike pushng my self hard with hill climb settings.
i then move onto arms and legs for about 20 mins to finish the session, the arms i do 35k weight, 20 pull downs then 10 secs brake another 20 and so on untill i cant do another 20,
sooo i do this about 5 times a week, and it is already having good effects !!
i am considering shakes, do u think they will make much of a difference and are they appropraite to my type of workout – or should i make some changes to my workout, thanks !
Your exercise routine is fine for your age. don’t forget your only 16,your body will be growing and changing a LOT at the moment, so lots of extra strain with over-using weights can sometimes have a negative effect. Please just remember to listen to your body, if at any point your struggling or your body is hurting, then pace yourself a little. Five times a week is a pretty intense workout!
Anyway, sorry for the lecture, on to protein shakes, YES! add some protein! Protein is fantastic for your body after a workout, it helps repair the muscles after the battering theyve taken from exercise. Also, as I’m sure you’ll know already, your body needs proten to build muscle in the first place. I use whey protein, its non-animal and easy for your body to break down and use. mix your shake up with milk or 50/50 water/milk for an easy way to get even more protein and a calcium hit in there too (important for bone growth which, rather boringly, becomes much much more important in people with large muscle mass.) Too much to think about! lol. Try drinking shakes after your workout when you get home from the gym.
