Core Exercise Books

New to muscle building. Please advise.?
Hi. I’m finishing my college studies and i’m thinking about joining a gym to gain some mass. I’m 5 ft 11 and 160 lbs and despite my 24 years of age i get tired easily. Note that i’m not looking for any steroid-based procedure or a “miracle program”. Instead i’m looking for sound advice. From what i’ve read so far:
- I should focus on core exercises with free weights.
- I should increase my protein intake. (I’m already on a strict program)
- 3 days/week are enough
Anything else?
- Should i follow my trainer’s advice, even when it is against what i’ve read?
- Is there anything else i should be aware of?
- Any books etc?
Thanks
Being a personal trainer, I can tell you that 90 percent of the people that I have met in the health and wellness industry are misinformed about working out and only care about the money. A trainers opinion of what is right or wrong can change with every new copy of Muscle and Fitness. In order to find what works best for you, you will have to try some stuff out. All our bodies are wired differently. I always suggest the paleo diet to all my clients, and most tell me they feel better, are getting leaner, and overall, just feel “lighter” all the time. Its a tough diet to stick to as it cuts out ALL grains. Now, that being said, the first three days will be rough, but dont give in. After three days you will more than likely feel a euphoric effect. Its amazing. I have included a link, do some research.
Be aware of gimmicky products with catchy names. Those companies are out for the quick sell, profit is the bottom line. Some of the best workouts I have been through consisted of only bodyweight movements (squat, pushup, pull ups, sit ups, handstand pushups, Etc)
Another thing to be aware of is anything that has been refined.
Some books I usually reccomend are:
The Primal Blueprint
The paleo diet
The paleo diet for athletes
